Ohio Special Election

I wasn’t sure if I was going to make a post about this or not, I don’t have the kind of reach that might make this more impactful or whatever, but I know there are at least a couple folks who follow me who are also from Ohio and this is fucking important.

There’s a special election happening in Ohio, on August 8th, that is only ONE issue. There’s only ONE issue on the ballot. To change the Ohio constitution from a simple majority to requiring at least 60% of voters to pass anything. It also changes how Ohio citizens can initiate amendments by raising the number of signatures needed and eliminating the 10 day period disputed signatures can be corrected.

I’ve seen several commercials asking to vote no on Issue 1, where they talk about what would happen if this issue passes in the short amount of time they get for a commercial.

But today I saw a commercial telling people to vote yes because it will “protect the children” from us filthy evil trans people. This commercial claimed the opposing side’s commercials were lying and that this issue is about protecting children by giving parents the right to keep schools from teaching about gender identity and whatever “woke liberals” want to teach their precious precious children.

That’s not what this issue is about. Politicians are pulling a fast one, they’re trying to be sneaky. This is a special election outside regular election dates. This election is about stopping a majority of Ohioans from voting for legalized abortion in November.

Sorry, I’m getting a bit too worked up to keep talking about this so I’m just going to leave you with a few links and a bit of information:

You can vote early in Ohio, it’s open, in fact early voting opened on July 11th, but anyway, you can vote early, if you cannot vote the day of. You DO NEED a form of identification when you go to vote, either a driver’s license, state ID, US passport or passport card, a US military or National Guard ID card, or a US Department of Veterans Affairs ID card. This Link Here will take you to the site that will help you find your early in person voting location.

You can also vote via absentee ballot, which also requires a valid form of identification. If this is the route you want to take, This Link Here can tell you how to get your absentee ballot.

This Link Here will take you to a voter’s guide specifically about the Aug. 8 special election, where it will tell what a no vote will do and what a yes vote will do. I’m begging you to vote no, but that’s your choice. You literally do not have to listen to me, I’m just here giving you what tools I can think of to give you.

This Link Here is an article done by CBS News, who did a little investigation on this. I didn’t touch on anything from this article, but I encourage you to read it. It’s enlightening.

Sorry, I know this is a lot of words but the TL;DR is this: Ohio is holding a special election on August 8th with exactly one (1) issue on the ballot. It’s, I’ve heard said, and would agree, maybe one of the most important issues you’ll ever vote on.

I’ve gotten 3 or 4 flyers/postcards from ohio union strong strongly urging me to vote no on issue 1 and like. i very much did. i’ve also gotten a couple letters urging me to vote no. one from someone in ohio and one from someone part of a campaign to spread political awareness about issues that could prove catastrophic to citizens in the state, this person was from oregon which shout out to her i appreciate her! but i’m losing the plot here so what i wanted to say is everybody’s so focused on the various unions striking/potentially striking and like. yes! cool! but this is also pretty fucking important and i’m gonna capitalize on this by saying the ohio uaw and other various unions strongly object to issue 1. look they’ve even got a website all about it!

fucks me up that by total coincidence the sun and moon’s size difference is exactly matched to their difference in distance from us, thus making our beautiful total solar eclipses where you can see the silver threads of the sun’s corona possible because the moon just covers the sun completely

The stars (literally) aligned just right for this experience to be possible. It’s likely that aliens don’t have this

The moon is also absolutely gargantuan by moon standards. It isn’t the largest moon in the solar system, but it is BY FAR the largest in comparison with its planet. Ganymede is the largest satellite of Jupiter and the largest moon in the solar system. Its diameter is only about 3.8% of Jupiter’s. Titan’s radius is 4.4% of Saturn’s. Callisto and Io are the next largest in the neighborhood, with 3.4% and 2.6% the diameter of Jupiter respectively.

Our moon is number 5. It is smaller in direct comparison to the above moons. The diameter of the moon is 3475 km. That is a full 27% of the diameter of the Earth. More than a quarter. That’s ridiculous. It’s unheard of. The universe is large enough that the word unique probably doesn’t mean a lot, but this might be about as close as you get.

This has had a huge impact on our planet. Other things aliens might not have are significant tides. One of Mars’s dumpy little potatoes wouldn’t be able to move oceans the way our moon does.

Our moon has also stabilized our axis to a massive degree. Without her up there our axis would wobble all over the place and our climate would be far more chaotic. Aliens might not be quite so lucky.

I guess what I am really trying to say is that the moon is extremely cool. I like the moon.

Just want to add that the reason we have such a large moon is because a whole planet crashed into proto-Earth. Theia (the planet) and Earth got so superheated by this collision that their component cores fused and the impact jettisoned a lot of material into space. That massive amount of jettisoned material became our moon. So Earth and the moon have very similar composition. This does not seem to be a common method of lunar formation.

what if the answer to the fermi paradox is that life cant exist without a moon like luna

I got a serious beef with the Fermi paradox. There is no Fermi paradox. There stopped being a Fermi paradox once the first radio telescopes went up, and we began to get a true sense of the sheer scale of the universe.

Space is big, empty, and loud. Sunspots can cause enough interference to affect global communications. We’re not even loud enough to talk over our own sun. On our own planet. We can barely communicate with Voyager, and we know exactly where it is and what its signal sounds like.

The Fermi paradox is like doubting the existence of Belfast, because you stood on a windy New York beach shouting towards it and didn’t get an answer.

Talking about kisses!!!

I should cover my eyes or look away… but… WHOA!!! *fans self*

Understandable that they edited it (so much!?) for the final cut. The censors would probably go apoplectic if they did not!

* I feel like I’m intruding while watching but I can’t look away!

Wow, that is some incredible kissing. I am aware that there is SO MUCH WORK going on to make it look that good but half my brain is shouting TENDERNESS IS SO SEXY at it.

Sure! They’re very weird.

  1. My dad regularly sings to my mom about how much he loves her while standing exactly in the way of whatever she’s trying to do
  2. My parents didn’t marry until I was 4 and they regularly forget that they’re spouses. They generally refer to themselves as partners
  3. My mom proposed to my dad by yelling at him from a room away that her taxes were fucked and they had to get married to which my father replied “this is how I always dreamed you’d ask me!” and pretending to swoon
  4. My dad appears as an actor in the movie Swoon, supposedly an important piece of queer cinema
  5. My parents were both punks in their youth
  6. When I came home for thanksgiving with a mohawk, unannounced, my mom started crying because I looked “so handsome” and “just like your dad” and kept petting my head
  7. My dad only says “that’s my boy” to me when I say something gay about men
  8. My mom and dad have the same taste in women but opposite taste in men
  9. One time we were watching a movie set in Chicago and my mom turned to my dad, and in the most sentimental mom voice, said “Chicago honey! We haven’t been there since the anarchist convention!”
  10. My dad worked on California’s weed legalization bill

The anarchist version of gomez and morticia

I know this makes the anti-voting fandom big mad but this is only happening because Murphy was re-elected by a thin margin in November 2021, bucking a 40 year trend of Democratic governors losing re-election in NJ, because enough people voted for him

Remember, people who have a victim complex about voting:
